Southgate is located in the city of Bath, England. The Georgian buildings that once stood here were pulled down in the 1960s and an indoor shopping mall was built, and next to that a multi-storey carpark. In January 2007 work began by today’s developers to demolish all the buildings within this 9-acre site, including the 1950s bus station, the 19th century Old Dairy and, amid much controversy, the Art Deco Churchill House (Bath’s former electricity offices). The new development of shops, bus station and flats is due to be completed in the next few years.
I started photographing this urban landscape just prior to its demolition. I am currently searching for a suitable venue within the city to display some of these photographs.
